The Mission Name

Give them a team name and a 2-minute mission. Opponents become teammates instantly.

Ages 3–92–5 min2 kidsHousehold items

When children are fighting: 'Stop. You're now Team [anything. Dinosaur, thunder, potato]. Your mission: [achievable task] in 2 minutes. Go.' The team name linguistically repositions them from opponents to teammates before they've consciously agreed to it. The mission creates immediate forward motion without requiring any discussion of the conflict.

How to do it

  1. 1"Say stop and give them a team name. Anything works — dinosaur, thunder, potato. Your mission: [task]. Two minutes. Go."
  2. 2Say it with energy. The tone is the whole thing.
  3. 3Step back and don't manage the mission once it's running.

Variations

  • Korb-Tür: If they ignore the team assignment and keep arguing, repeat the team name once — "Team Thunder, your mission starts now" — then stop talking. The mission runs whether they acknowledge it or not.
  • Ausstieg: At two minutes, one statement: "Mission complete!" No debriefing, no discussion. Move on to the next thing.

💡 Parent tip

The team name should be ridiculous, not meaningful. 'Team Thunder' works; 'Team KindnessAndCooperation' defeats the purpose. Silliness accelerates buy-in.
