Car Seat Workout

Ten physical challenges you can do completely in a car seat. For the child who cannot sit still one more minute.

Ages 2–105–15 min1–4 kidsHousehold items

A sequence of seated exercises that burn off energy without leaving the car: shoulder rolls, seatbelt pulls, foot stomps, invisible bicycles. Turns restlessness into a game with real physical exertion.

How to do it

  1. 1"Okay — we're going to do a car workout. Ready? Big shoulder rolls. Ten forward, go."
  2. 2Press both hands against the seatbelt as hard as you can for ten seconds. Release.
  3. 3Feet off the floor. Pedal the air for thirty seconds. This is cycling.
  4. 4Foot stomps: alternating feet, as fast as possible, for twenty seconds. Count them out loud.

Variations

  • Korb-Tür: If they refuse the full sequence, pick one exercise: "Just tell me how many foot stomps you can do without stopping."
  • Ausstieg: After the last exercise, take three deep breaths together and announce: "You're done. Your body is tired now in the good way. Quiet time." Then 30 minutes of calm follow naturally.

💡 Parent tip

Start a sequence as soon as the 'Are we there yet?' starts. The physical challenge resets the clock. Children who have done a proper seated workout are calm for another 30 minutes.
